Goals/Objectives

  • Enhance NCS mission readiness through staffing, training, and exercise support
  • Focus exercise program to include other organizations at Federal and Regional levels

Current and Future Initiatives

Training - The readiness level of the ESF #2 components is sustained by the ESF #2 Training Conferences augmented by periodic “distance training” teleconferences.
  • Promote awareness of operational policies and procedures
  • Promote awareness of communications technologies
  • Incorporate lessons learned from ESF #2 deployments
Exercise - The NCS Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Branch has the lead in coordinating NCS participation in national level exercises that test NCS plans and management procedures. The Training and Exercise Team develops and implements training and exercise programs, identifies exercises in which capabilities provided by NCS initiatives can be demonstrated, and integrates NCS initiatives into existing exercises whenever possible.
  • Continue current level of support to the National Response Framework (NRF) exercises
  • Coordinate NCS program involvement
  • Increase ESF #2 Support Agency involvement
  • Encourage and coordinate industry participation
  • Coordinate internal Emergency Response Group (ERG) exercises and staff support

NCS Augmentee Program - The NCS Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) Program consists of the U.S. Army reservists who can deploy to support a disaster response effort. The members are U.S. Army Reserve officers (typically Lieutenant Colonels and Colonels) with military and/or civilian training and experience in communications planning and operations; information system planning and operations; and management of an Operations Center. The NCS IMA Unit is based in Arlington, VA; however, the assigned personnel are geographically dispersed throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
