Four Executives
Sworn in as NSTAC Principals
Washington D.C. May 21, 2009 - Four
corporate executives recently appointed to the President’s
National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC)
were sworn today in as NSTAC principals during a brief ceremony
at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, adjacent to The White
House.
The newest members of NSTAC are Marc Gordon, Chief
Technology Officer for Bank of America; Kevin R. Johnson, Chief
Executive Officer for Juniper Networks; Mr. Thomas J. Lynch, Chief
Executive Office of Tyco Electronics; and Kay Sears, President of
Intelsat General Corporation. The four executives – appointed
by President George W. Bush – are in Washington for the 32nd
meeting of NSTAC at The White House and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
President Bush appointed Mr. Lynch to NSTAC on April
7, 2008, while Mr. Gordon received his appointment on October 23.
Both Ms. Sears and Mr. Johnson received NSTAC appointments on December
24, 2008.
Tim Saunders, White House Executive Clerk, administered
the oath to the four newest NSTAC members. The new principals later
joined their NSTAC colleagues for a meeting with President Barack
H. Obama in the White House to discuss current and future national
security and emergency preparedness communications issues.
President Ronald Reagan created the NSTAC by Executive
Order 12382 in September 1982. Composed of up to 30 industry chief
executives representing the major communications and network service
providers and information technology, finance, and aerospace companies,
the NSTAC provides industry-based advice and expertise to the President
on issues and problems related to implementing national security
and emergency preparedness communications policy.
