President Designates New Chair and Vice Chair of President’s NSTAC

Arlington, VA., December 01, 2006 - President Bush announced November 30, that he intends to designate Mr. Gary D. Forsee, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sprint Nextel, to serve as Chair of the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC). Mr. Forsee will replace Mr. F. Duane Ackerman, Chairman and CEO of BellSouth Corporation, the outgoing NSTAC Chair.

The President also announced that he intends to designate Mr. Randall L. Stephenson, Chief Operating Officer of AT&T as the NSTAC Vice Chair.

The President also announced his intent to appoint Howard L. Lance and Daniel J. Carroll, Jr., as members of the NSTAC. Mr. Lance is Chairman, President and CEO of Harris Corporation, and Mr. Carroll is President and CEO of Telcordia Technologies.

The President's NSTAC is composed of up to 30 presidentially appointed industry leaders (usually chief executive officers). In its advisory role to the President, the NSTAC provides industry-based analyses and recommendations on a wide range of policy and technical issues related to telecommunications, information assurance, infrastructure protection, and national security and emergency preparedness communications.
The National Communication System, part of the Department of Homeland Security’s Preparedness Directorate supports NSTAC in accordance with Executive Order 12382.
