Ash Named as Department of Transportation Member to the NCS Committee of Principals Arlington, VA, October 14, 2005 - The Department of Transportation named Darren Ash, its Associate Chief Information Officer for Information Technology Investment Management and the Acting Deputy Chief Information Officer, to the National Communications System’s Committee of Principals. The NCS Committee of Principals is a presidentially designated interagency group that provides advice and recommendations on national security and emergency preparedness telecommunications to the Executive Office of the President. It is composed of high-level Government officials representing 23 Federal operational, policy, regulatory, and enforcement organizations. Mr. Ash replaces Mr. Eugene (Kim) Taylor, who retired in September 2005. In the Associate Chief Information Officer position, Mr. Ash develops and implements plans, processes, and procedures in enhance the department’s efforts in cyber security, enterprise architecture and capital planning. Prior service includes his work at the Department of Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service. The National Communications System, part of the Department of Homeland Security’s Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection Directorate, consists of 23 Federal member departments and agencies and is responsible for ensuring the availability of a viable national security and emergency preparedness (NS/EP) communications infrastructure.
