Dammeyer Named
as Department of Transportation Member to the NCS Council of Representatives
Arlington, VA, April 25, 2005 - The
Department of Transportation named Michael Dammeyer to the National
Communications System’s Council of Representatives.
The NCS Committee of Principals is a presidentially
designated interagency group that provides advice and recommendations
on national security and emergency preparedness telecommunications
to the Executive Office of the President. It is composed of high-level
Government officials representing 23 Federal operational, policy,
regulatory, and enforcement organizations.
Mr. Dammeyer is the Telecommunications Manager at
the Department of Transportation working under the Office of the
Chief Information Officer. Over the past four years, Mr. Dammeyer
has provided guidance and leadership in the operations and architectural
design areas of communications at the headquarters level and provides
technical and coordinates support for the departments Continuity
of Operations.
Specifically, Mr. Dammeyer provides leadership and
strategic direction to the Departments Information Technology (IT)
program. Responsibilities include the operations of the telecommunications
systems supporting the Washington, D.C. area infrastructure. He
supports voice, video data and wireless applications using best
practices for evaluating technical solutions and leads the departments
priority communications initiatives. His current responsibilities
are inclusive of the IT infrastructure for the Department’s
new headquarters building to be located at the Southeast Federal
Center.
Previously, Mr. Dammeyer served at the Department
of Transportation as the Site Project Manager for GTE/Verizon. The
position included the supervision and implementation of the IT and
communications systems that are currently providing service to the
Department of Transportation. He was also a technical support engineer
with Northern Telecom supporting various government and commercial
accounts.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education
from the University of Maryland in 1982.
The National Communications System, part of the Department
of Homeland Security’s Information Analysis and Infrastructure
Protection Directorate, consists of 23 Federal member departments
and agencies and is responsible for ensuring the availability of
a viable national security and emergency preparedness (NS/EP) communications
infrastructure.
