SBC's Stephenson Appointed by President to NSTAC
The President's NSTAC is composed of up to 30 Presidentially appointed industry leaders (usually chief executive officers). In its advisory role to the President, the NSTAC provides industry-based analyses and recommendations on a wide range of policy and technical issues related to telecommunications, information assurance, infrastructure protection, and other national security and emergency preparedness concerns. The current NSTAC chair is Mr. F. Duane Ackerman, Chairman and CEO of BellSouth. Mr. Stephenson is responsible for all wireline operations and was appointed to his current position in April 2004. Since August 2001, Mr. Stephenson had served as senior executive vice president and chief financial officer, where he was responsible for directing financial planning, accounting, tax, auditing, investment management, financing and investor and stockholder relations for SBC. Previously, he served as senior vice president-finance, where he oversaw all corporate financial planning activities for SBC. Mr. Stephenson joined Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1982 in the information technology organization in Oklahoma City. In 1986, he was named area manager-corporate taxes. He became district manager-financial analysis in 1991. A year later, he was named director-finance for SBC International, Inc. in Mexico City and was responsible for financial oversight of SBC's Mexico properties, including Teléfonos de México (Telmex). In 1996, Stephenson became controller for SBC Communications Inc. in San Antonio, and was appointed vice president and controller for SBC the following year. In that role, he was responsible for SBC's internal and external financial reporting, accounting and financial planning. He also has served as senior vice president-finance with
responsibility for all financial matters of SBC's telephone company
operations, which included Ameritech, Pacific Bell, Nevada Bell, and
Southwestern Bell. Mr. Stephenson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting
from Central State University in Edmond, Okla., and a Master of Accountancy
