Homeland Security Department’s IAIP Lead Visits NCS Arlington, VA., December 5, 2002 - John Gannon, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Transition Team’s representative for the Information Assurance and Infrastructure Protection (IAIP) Directorate, visited the National Communications System (NCS) on November 18, 2002, to learn more about the programs and capabilities the NCS will bring to the new Department in March 2003. Assets of the NCS are to transfer to the IAIP Directorate on March 1, according to the White House Reorganization Plan released November 25. During his visit to the NCS, Gannon met with Lt. Gen. Harry D. Raduege, Jr., Manager of the NCS; NCS Deputy Manager Brenton C. Greene; and staff representing all of the OMNCS divisions to gain a thorough overview of the various NCS programs and activities. He heard presentations on current and emerging NCS programs, operational readiness, new technological initiatives, and the history of the NCS and its long-standing relationship with the private telecommunications sector. Following the briefing, Gannon toured the National Coordinating Center for Telecommunications (NCC), then concluded his visit with stops in the Joint Task Force for Computer Network Operations (JTF-CNO), and the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Global Network Operations and Security Center (GNOSC). As a follow up to the meeting, the OMNCS furnished Gannon with a list of DHS “Day One” priorities, which will serve as milestones to be achieved over the next 90 days to maximize the NCS capabilities in the DHS. Prior to being appointed team captain for overseeing IAIP Directorate integration efforts last August, Gannon served as Vice Chairman of Intelibridge Corp., a Washington, D.C.-based provider of Internet-based intelligence and advisory solutions for major corporations and Government organizations.
