President Intends to Appoint Cisco System’s Chambers, former NCS Manager Edmonds to NIAC Arlington, VA., November 27, 2002 - President Bush announced on November 13 his intention to appoint two individuals with past or current ties to the National Communications System (NCS) to the National Infrastructure Advisory Committee (NIAC). The President announced that Cisco Systems’ John Chambers and Albert J. Edmonds of EDS would join 24 other individuals who represent major sectors of the economy on the NIAC. Last September, the President named the first group of NIAC members who will make recommendations to the White House regarding the United States’ national security and economic critical infrastructures. Richard Davidson, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Union Pacific Corporation, is the NIAC Chair. Chambers, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Cisco Systems, will serve as the NIAC Vice Chair, according to the White House release. Chambers has served President Bush as a member of the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC) – a committee directly supported by the NCS. President Clinton appointed Chambers to the NSTAC in May 2000. At this time, there is no word on if Chambers will resign from NSTAC to assume NIAC duties. Edmonds, currently President of U.S. Government Solutions at EDS, has been with EDS since 1998. A retired Air Force lieutenant general, Edmonds completed a distinguished military career as the Manager of the National Communications System and Director of the Defense Information Systems Agency from June 1994 to June 1997.
