NCS Completes Survey of Telecom News Washington D.C., April 04, 2001 - Readers of the National Communications System’s (NCS) quarterly newsletter provided the NCS with a wide variety of comments and suggestions following the completion of a newsletter survey completed in February. The NCS mailed nearly 1,200 surveys to readers of the Telecom News in their effort to refine and improve the quarterly publication on national security and emergency preparedness (NS/EP) telecommunications issues. Based on returned responses, over 80 percent said that the Telecom News is a valuable source of NS/EP telecommunications information. Nearly 70 percent of the reading audience considered it important to receive the quarterly printed version, even though the electronic version of the Telecom News is posted on the NCS Web Site 4 to 6 weeks before the printed version is mailed. Seventy percent of those who returned surveys did not realize that the Telecom News was available on the Internet. Also, 70 percent of the readers said they would like to see an e-mail notice of new NCS news articles posted to the NCS Web Site. The NCS survey also asked readers what topics they would like to see covered in the publication’s pages. Of the 11 topics listed, most indicated that they would like more articles on technology trends (66 percent) and telecommunications policy (60 percent). Nearly 54 percent of the readership would like more articles on NS/EP activities and nearly 48 percent of the audience requested more critical infrastructure protection topics. Federal Government subscribers and telecommunications industry readers accounted for nearly 75 percent of all the returned surveys. The remaining 25 percent were responses from readers representing State and municipal NS/EP activities, and from academia.
